Palomilla’s

Palomilla’s is a Cuban restaurant located in Norcross, Ga.  Hemingway use to drink mojitos in Cuba, so I had to give this one a try. I decided to go with the Mango Mojito.  It’s made with Appleton State Jamaican Rum, mango mix, and mojito mix.  This was a great drink, more sour than sweet with just a slight hint of the mint and sugar.  And for $6.50, its a pretty good deal.

For a Thursday lunch, this place was popping.  While we were eating, all but 3 or 4 tables filled up.  It has a warm, friendly environment with all of the small tables and conversation filling the air.  The waiters were friendly and the food was good.  I ordered a Cuban fish sandwich.   Basically, it’s a giant slab of fish on a Cuban roll.  The onions were a little much for me, but it was good.

Tudo Na Brasa

Tudo Na Brasa, or Taste of Brasil, is a Brazilian cafeteria-style restaurant in Woburn, Ma. right next to Boston.  Brazil has a different version of the mojito, called a caipirinha.  It basically like a mojito with no mint: just rum, sugar and lime.  I liked it a lot.  I thought the rum would be overpowering, but the drink was very well made.  These drinks are very popular in Brasil, and I can add them to the list of acceptable mojito alternatives for the blog.

The food was good.  It is cafeteria style where you pay by the poundage of food you get.  I think it was $5.50 per pound.  Their bacon wrapped chicken was amazing.  They also serve pig ears and hooves if you’re in to that kind of thing.

The service was great. I asked for a drink menu and the owner sent the bartender over to help me decide what to get since they didn’t have a menu.  I doubt I will be in the area anytime soon, but I would definitely go back.

Local Luna mojito

This is where it all begins.  Loca Luna has one of the best mojitos in Atlanta; it has been voted best Mojito by Atlanta City Search, The AJC and Creative Loafing.  The have a variety of mojitos to choose from, but I wanted to start off with the traditional.  As promised, the mojito was great.  They use premium rum, so it is incredibly easy to drink.  And some lime is added in the drink for just the right amount of sourness.  It is $8.50, which is a little on the higher end, but the glass is large and you get a generous pour of rum.

The food was delicious as well, their fish tacos are the best I have tried and the fried calamari is amazing also.  But there is bad news;  the service was horrible.  We waited for a good 10+ minutes before we even got water.  Our server never introduced herself until the manager had already taken our drink order.  This is the second time we have eaten there, and the service was decent the first time.  The place wasn’t that busy, so it was really unacceptable to wait 10 minutes before introducing yourself to your table.

All in all, the food and drinks were good.  I’ll give them one more shot before I swear off this place forever.

Hello world!

First off, welcome to my new blog: Mojito Madness.  The goal of this blog is to try various mojitos and different takes on mojitos from around the world.  Most will be from the Atlanta area, but I will probably have opportunities to travel at different times throughout the year.

I already have notes on three different mojitos I have tried in the last few weeks and hope to get started on those very shortly.
